Golden Stone Lecture Lesson:What Goes Through a Urologist’s Mind While Running

King Yuan Fu continues to promote holistic employee development and workplace resilience through the “Golden Stone Lecture” series. This event featured Dr. Wang Jiong-Cheng, Vice Superintendent and Urology Specialist at En Chu Kong Hospital, who delivered a keynote titled, “What Goes Through a Urologist’s Mind While Running?” Drawing on his experience in medical practice, teaching, and hospital administration, Dr. Wang inspired employees to learn across multiple dimensions—from health management and psychological resilience to a growth mindset.

The Integration of Medicine and Daily Life: Using Running to Talk About Health and Longevity

Dr. Wang pointed out that over a lifetime, the human heart beats about 3 billion times and urination happens around 200,000 times, showing how daily habits are closely related to health. He explained, based on medical research and his personal experience:

  • A slower heartbeat may indicate a longer lifespan;

  • Abnormal urination frequency might be a health warning sign.

  • If regular running starts at age 40, life expectancy could extend from 80 to about 87 years.
  • Running can promote endorphin secretion, helping release stress and improve psychological resilience.
    The mental benefits become especially evident when running lasts more than 30 minutes or covers distances over approximately 13 kilometers.

From Data to Governance: Health Management Requires a Quantitative Mindset

Dr. Wang also quoted the management guru Peter F. Drucker’s famous saying: “If you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it,” extending this concept to medical governance and personal management:

“No data means no statistics; no statistics means no governance.”

This serves as a reminder that whether in healthcare, business management, or personal health, it is essential to establish effective quantitative mechanisms in order to achieve meaningful improvement and progress.

Belief in the Marathon: Running with Mental Resilience and Moving Moments

One of the most touching parts of the event was Dr. Wang’s sharing of his experience in the Berlin Marathon. Despite an injury that made him doubt his ability to finish the race, he persevered—carrying a photo of his late father—and completed the final two kilometers. This act powerfully reflected emotional connection and unwavering belief.

His story not only highlighted the psychological strength gained through running, but also symbolized the importance of staying true to oneself and fulfilling one’s mission even in the face of adversity.

The “King Stone Lecture” series, initiated by King Yuan Fu, aims to invite professionals from industry, government, and academia to share their success stories, offering employees diverse learning opportunities. By combining practical experience with innovation, the series fosters a dynamic exchange of knowledge and values. Looking ahead, King Yuan Fu will continue to promote similar lectures to collaboratively shape a sustainable future.
